CRC Marketing Hub: More status options beyond Lead and Client

Today the main statuses are Lead and Client, which doesn't cover real-world stages like "referral that hasn't paid yet," "trial," or "paused." Users are creating custom statuses (e.g., "Client - Pending Payment") to bridge the gap, mainly because Lead status blocks portal login and Client implies they're already paying.
What would help:
Either additional built-in statuses for common in-between stages, or the ability to control portal-login permission per custom status.
Why it matters:
A user described having to create a "Client - Pending Payment" custom status specifically because real Lead status doesn't allow portal login. They mass-email these contacts so the contacts can log in and pick a plan. More flexible status options (or login-permission control on custom statuses) would remove the workaround.
